MoRD Initiative on Financial Literacy under NRLM – Training to CRPs by RSETIs

Under National Rural Livelihoods Mission, NABARD, Mumbai will support NRLM in building Institutions of the poor by undertaking financial literacy initiative with focus on financial empowerment of women, which includes credit linkage with Banks to achieve the desired goal. To take the financial literacy initiative forward, Sri Atal Dulloo, Joint Secretary, MoRD has constituted an Empowered Committee comprising of Director, BIRD, Lucknow, GM, NABARD, GM, SIDBI, NDR, NACER, Under Secretary, MoRD, New Delhi with JS, MoRD as its Chairman.

The Empowered Committee, in its first meeting, decided to impart Financial Literacy through a series of trainings, to create a 'Pool of Master Trainers' at National level. The training would be done at BIRD, Lucknow and the cost of training will be absorbed by NABARD. Director / Faculty Members from RSETI and Financial Literacy Counsellors would be trained as Master trainers. At District level, these trained Master trainers would, in turn, conduct training to community cadre personnel to be called as ‘Financial Literacy CRPs (FL-CRPs)’. At village level, there would be a 'Team of FL-CRP’ to impart training to SHG members. These trained leaders/representatives may, in turn, sensitize the members of SHG in the regular meetings of the group. FL intervention would be rolled out in 10 States. Towards this end, the first Training of Trainers (ToT) was organized for the stakeholders in the State of Rajasthan at BIRD, Lucknow from 22nd to 25th February 2016, in which the Directors and Faculty Members from select RSETIs participated and successfully completed the TOT.
